Purpose

Enhancing UX for Pelvic Health

Redesigning Pelvi’s Onboarding & Workout Interface

Improve user retention, accessibility, and engagement by refining the 2 most critical flows: onboarding and workouts.

Industry: Health, Fitness, & Wellness; Digital Health Solutions

Problem Statement

Solution

Pelvi users, particularly postpartum women and individuals with pelvic health concerns, struggled with:

A confusing onboarding experience that led to high drop-off rates.

A rigid workout interface that didn’t accommodate varying schedules or accessibility needs.

Lack of motivation due to poor progress tracking and engagement features.

Scattered UI components, making navigation and usability difficult.

Challenges

Redesigning critical flows without alienating existing users.

Improving accessibility for users with different mobility needs.

Balancing usability, medical accuracy, and business goals.

The final design focused on seamless navigation, clear hierarchy, and engaging micro-interactions.

Onboarding: Reduced cognitive load by breaking forms into smaller steps.

Workouts: Designed an intuitive playback-style session rather than overwhelming lists.

Progress Tracking: Introduced small, achievable milestones to keep users motivated.

Behind the Scenes

Accessibility testing ensured contrast, touch targets, and voice guidance met standards.

Data-backed iterations resulted in a 40% decrease in user confusion (based on usability studies).

Context

Project Goals

✅ Reduce onboarding drop-off rates by 40% within three months.

✅ Double user retention and engagement by redesigning the workout interface.

✅ Revamped onboarding process with a user-friendly, step-by-step flow to reduce cognitive overload.

✅ Time-based workout flow for flexible, guided exercises rather than rigid task-based completion.

✅ Scalable design system to ensure consistency, accessibility, and long-term growth.

Impact

✅ 40% decrease in onboarding drop-off rates within 3 months.

✅ 2x increase in user retention after redesigning the workout interface.

✅ 20% improvement in accessibility score after implementing WCAG-compliant UI.

✅ 30% reduction in customer support tickets related to workout confusion.

Approach

Methodologies & Tools

Human-Centered Design: User research, interviews, and usability testing to validate design decisions.

Design Sprint: Rapid iterations to test onboarding and workout flow changes.

Prototyping & Usability Testing: Conducted A/B testing to compare old vs. new flows.

Why These Methods?

Users required intuitive interactions due to limited time and attention.

Research-driven iterations ensured we tackled actual pain points rather than assumptions.

A scalable design system was necessary for future-proofing the platform.

Key Events, Insights, and Decisions

User Research & Key Insights

High onboarding drop-off (60%) – users felt overwhelmed by too many questions upfront.

Workout adherence was low (30%) – rigid time slots didn’t fit unpredictable schedules.

Users needed small wins – lack of visible progress discouraged them.

Design Iterations

Onboarding Redesign

Simplified form fields, progressive disclosure, and added a guided walkthrough.

Before: Cluttered UI with too many fields upfront.

After: Step-by-step onboarding with engaging progress indicators.

Workout Interface Overhaul

Replaced static exercise lists with time-based flows, allowing users to adjust intensity.

Integrated accessibility features like haptic feedback and audio guidance.

Before: Complex workout lists with no flexibility.

After: Adaptive sessions based on progress and user input.

Scalable Design System

Created reusable UI components for future features.

Ensured compliance with WCAG accessibility standards.
